PLAY HILDA’S THEME SONG! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCkJ3Uviv-I&feature=related
Hilda is the creation of illustrator Duane Bryer. She is an irrepressible force of nature, a mirthquake of epic proportions.
Hilda is a nymph of the free spirit, dwelling in a world composed entirely of the cottage garden, fishing hole, seaside, and pastures surrounding her ramshackle cabin. Hilda represents the true spirit of the dotty garden lady. She is the patron saint of all true Dirty Ladies. I suspect that heterosexual-identifying Dirty Garden Gentlemen may have an altogether different response to Hilda, at least in their hearts. ; – >
Hilda bears a passing resemblance to me, and to just about every Dotty Southern Garden Lady from whence I spring, in both her zaftig proportions and her choice of gardening attire.
Except for my trim, svelte Mamaw, of course, who gardened in the heat of Western Kentucky and Central Texas sporting a glamorous broad-brimmed hat, form-fitting black pedal-pushers (they wick), a polka-dot tube top, and truly remarkable garden gloves that looked for all the world like fencing gauntlets. Mamaw always resembled a film star when she gardened.
For the rest of us, there is la Hilda, a dimpled dreamgirl who lives fully in the moment, every moment of her life.
